アンドリュー・ガーフィールド(Andrew Garfield)主演のリバイバル劇「エンジェルス・イン・アメリカ」(Angels in America)や、2007年公開のイスラエル映画をベースとした「迷子の警察音楽隊」(The Band’s Visit)、ロジャース&ハマースタインの「回転木馬」(Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Carousel)が11部門でノミネート、次いで現在大ヒット中の「ハリー・ポッターと呪いの子」(Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Parts One and Two)と、待望のリバイバル作品「マイ・フェア・レディ」(My Fair Lady)が10部門でノミネートとなっている。
特別功労賞 (Special Tony Award)には、ブルース・スプリングスティーン（Bruce Springsteen)と、Bruce Springsteenとジョン・レグイザモ（John Leguizamo)が選ばれた。

授賞式は、6月10日ラジオシティ・ミュージックホール (Radio City Music Hall)で開催され、CBSで午後8時から放映される。
