AP通信によると、筆記体の授業が小学校に復活しつつあるという。
筆記体の授業が、いつ頃からなくなり始めたのか定かではないが、2010年に多くの州によって採用された「Common-Core Standards(共通の教育基準)」には、筆記体の習熟が含まれていないという。
2016年に、アラバマ州とルイジアナ州は、公立学校において、生徒の筆記体の習熟を図ることを義務付ける法案を可決。また、昨秋より、全米最大規模となる110万人の生徒を抱えるニューヨークの公立学校システムにおいても、小学校3年生の授業で筆記体を教えることを推奨している。
時代とともに薄れつつある筆記体の必要性。ネットでは様々な意見が飛び交っているようです。

署名のためにしか使わないような筆記体に授業の時間を割くという意味が理解できない。筆記体は実際に使われていないのだから、コンピューターなどプログラム学習の授業をもっとやってほしいなど。

@AP I find it amusing the new interns at work who print everything but their signatures either take a lot of effort or are just a glob
